$489,000 state grant backs Thurston County’s salmon recovery planning in south Puget Sound

Thurston County, in partnership with the Thurston Conservation District, has been awarded a $489,000 grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce to support local planning efforts aimed at salmon recovery in south Puget Sound.

County officials said protecting salmon and the ecosystems they depend on requires coordinated action across the landscape, not isolated programs or regulations.

As the county continues to grow, decisions about development and land and water management play a significant role in water quality and habitat conditions.
