The Washington State Conservation Commission (SCC) is the coordinating state agency for all 45 conservation districts (CDs) in Washington State. Together, the SCC and CDs provide voluntary, incentive-based programs that empower people to practice conservation and ensure healthy natural resources and agriculture for all. The SCC was created by the legislature in 1939 (RCW 89.08.070). In our over 80-year history, we’ve learned what it takes to engage people with natural resource stewardship.

NRCS is an agency committed to “helping people help the land”—our mission is to provide resources to farmers and landowners to aid them with conservation. Ensuring productive lands in harmony with a healthy environment is our priority. With operations in the United States, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam, our agency touches the lives of a diverse range of individuals.

The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that represents America’s 3,000 conservation districts and the 17,000 men and women who serve on their governing boards. Conservation districts are local units of government established under state law to carry out natural resource management programs at the local level. Districts work with millions of cooperating landowners and operators to help them manage and protect land and water resources on private and public lands in the United States. NACD’s mission is to promote responsible management and conservation of natural resources on all lands by representing locally-led conservation districts and their associations through grassroots advocacy, education and partnerships.

The mission of the Washington Association of District Employees is to increase the effectiveness of conservation districts and their employees; foster a mutual partnership between conservation agencies, organizations, and associations through enhanced communication and professional improvement. With 39 locations throughout the state, WSU Extension is the front door to the University. Extension builds the capacity of individuals, organizations, businesses and communities, empowering them to find solutions for local issues and to improve their quality of life. Extension collaborates with communities to create a culture of life-long learning and is recognized for its accessible, learner-centered, relevant, high-quality, unbiased educational programs.

The Washington Conservation Society was formed on October 26, 2007, and is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our membership is made up of current and past conservation district supervisors or associate supervisors; employees of conservation districts; members and staff of partner organizations and agencies; spouses and other immediate family members of supervisors or associate supervisors who have passed away. Conservation Districts and partner organizations or agencies, as a single entity, are also eligible for membership.

American Farmland Trust was founded in 1980 to save America’s farms and ranches. We created the conservation agriculture movement, which speaks for the land—and for the people who grow our food. As the movement’s leaders, we have three priorities: protecting agricultural land, promoting environmentally sound farming practices, and keeping farmers on the land. AFT is the only national agricultural organization that approaches its work in this comprehensive, holistic manner. We recognize the connection between the land, forward-looking farming practices, and the farmers and ranchers who do the work. We also recognize the power of combining on-the-ground projects with objective research and effective advocacy.
