WSU Educates Landowners to Help Protect from Wildfire Threats
Washington State University (WSU) Extension Master Gardener, Linda Teller, held a Firewise garden tour and class at the Colville Community Garden, teaching curious homeowners the best landscaping practices and what building materials to use when creating a defensible space around their homes in preparation for fire season.
Teller gave the tour of the garden, noting that “WSU got a grant through the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) and the Stevens County Conservation District that was for making Firewise communities, and so what we’re doing is trying to show the different things landowners can do to make their property less susceptible to fire.”
More information can be found by calling the Stevens County Conservation District at 866-513-2741. The conservation district is currently offering free site visits for landowners and residents of Stevens County where they conduct a home visit and review fire prevention concepts for homeowners.
