In August, the Skagit Conservation District obtained a $184,000 Floodplains By Design grant, which with required matching funds will provide funding for modeling and collecting data on a large-scale restoration of the creek.
North of Bow, the creek regularly floods near homes along Colony Road during the winter, said Skagit Conservation District Manager Emmett Wild.
Wild said the grant funding will be used to better understand options for resolving flooding issues, and enhancing farmland and salmon habitat.
When the stream flows across the road, “then there are salmon getting washed into fields and ditches and places they shouldn’t be,” Wild said.
