Pierce CD Farm Planning Contract Employee
Position Description
Pierce Conservation District (PCD) is seeking to hire a current or former District or NRCS employee to write farm resource management plans for livestock producers in the Puyallup Watershed currently on PCD’s farm plan waiting list. Plans could include Comprehensive plans or NRCS plans if the applicant is an approved NRCS Technical Service Provider. The Comprehensive plan template will be provided.
Qualifications
Successful applicants must have one of the following: Center for Technical Development Farm Planner Level 2 Specialty Certification, certification for USDA NRCS Level I Planner designation, or an equivalent as defined by an alternative accredited planning organization. Alternatively, commensurate experience in writing farm resource management plans in lieu of the certifications listed above will be accepted upon inspection of work product examples and in consultation with employer references provided by applicants.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
The job includes working in an outdoor environment with the ability to work in all kinds of field conditions and weather. An initial producer meeting on their farm to perform a site resource assessment and take soil samples for testing is required. All other plan development work can be done remotely unless the producer prefers to meet in person to review and go through the completed plan.
Licenses
Valid Washington State driver’s license at time of hire with maintenance thereafter, or evidence of equivalent mobility.
Compensation
This will be a contract employee position that is paid on a per plan basis of $2,000 – $4,200 per plan depending on the complexity of the operation and whether the Comprehensive plan template is used or whether an NRCS plan is developed for a producer participating in an NRCS program. The contractor and PCD will negotiate the per plan price prior to each plan being written. No other benefits will be supplied.
Application Information
To apply, fill out the form, attaching both a cover letter and resume complete with three (3) position relevant professional references. Applicants should be prepared to submit work product example(s) to be reviewed for applicability. The example plan must demonstrate the applicant’s ability to write and implement a Farm Plan meeting relevant State/County/Local requirements, the USDA NRCS nine-step conservation planning process, and/or follow an approved format.
