WSDA’s STAR Market and Incentives Specialist Position

Position Description

The Market and Incentives Specialist supports WaSHI programming by pursuing market opportunities and developing economic incentives for soil health practitioners. This role implements, promotes, coordinates, and expands all aspects of a national grower recognition program called Saving Tomorrow’s Agriculture Resources (STAR) in Washington. STAR rewards growers for implementing conservation practices and provides economic opportunities to lower the barriers to entry for sustainable farming. The Market and Incentives Specialist will will be the primary liaison between WSDA, the National STAR organization, and affiliates from other states, identify and enroll interested growers through presentations and booths at grower meetings and conferences; formalize partnerships with technical assistance providers including at conservation districts, manage verification of enrolled fields, and engage the Washington food, fuel, and fiber sectors to provide develop financial incentives for increased STAR scores. Additionally, this position expands economic opportunities through efforts in crop insurance reform, grant writing, and other innovative partnerships.

The Market and Incentives Specialist is a full-time permanent position and is not represented. This position must be within driving distance to a WSDA office in Spokane, Olympia, or Yakima for weekly in-person work, and is otherwise eligible to telework.

Compensation

Salary: $60,132.00 – $80,820.00 Annually
