Okanogan CD Irrigated Agriculture – Natural Resource Technician

Position Description

Okanogan CD is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join the district as an Irrigated Agriculture Natural Resource Technician focused on water conservation. Current priority projects include:

  • Assisting with developing custom resource management plans for land managers using their goals and existing resources, to address natural resource concerns related to improving irrigation water resource management.
  • Assisting with implementing the district’s irrigation efficiency programs by collecting data as directed by supervisory staff, engineers, and producers to inform planning and implementation of irrigation upgrades and improved water application.
  • Assessing soil, water, plant, and other resource conditions as project requirements dictate and as directed by supervisory staff. Conduct necessary analyses of natural resource data to assist with developing effective and appropriate recommendations for the conservation of natural resources.

Typical Work
The Irrigated Agriculture Natural Resource Technician works proactively with private landowners, District staff, and agencies to implement projects that improve irrigation efficiency, distribution consistency, and overall improved water management. The Irrigated Agriculture Natural Resource Technician is responsible for the implementation of projects with agricultural producers to improve on-farm irrigation efficiency programs as well as assisting irrigation water purveyors with delivery system improvements to reduce water loss and increase water delivery efficiency. The employee will also assist with managing assigned grants, provide project administrative duties as needed, and conduct outreach and educational activities pertaining to their core functions and essential duties.

Compensation

This non-exempt (FLSA) position’s beginning hourly wage is $22.47 (Range 45, Step A) depending upon experience. This position is promotable depending upon education, experience, knowledge, and skills to the Planner Series (Range 50). This position is eligible for vacation leave, sick leave, medical benefits, 11 paid holidays per year, and Washington State DRS retirement benefits. Terms of compensation and benefits are set by the position appointment letter and may be amended at any time by the Board of Supervisors.
