Stevens County Conservation District’s Fire Safety Initiatives

The Stevens County Conservation District (SCCD), in partnership with the Colville National Forest and the Three Rivers Ranger District, brought a Fire Safety talk and Smokey Bear to Evergreen Elementary School in Gifford WA on Thursday June 6. The 37 students learned about ways to practice fire safety at school, at home, and outdoors.

This visit was part of the SCCD’s Forest Health and Community Wildfire Resiliency initiatives, which is supported with funding from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act (CCA).

“We are aiming to provide education for both youth and adults. We are also providing Technical Assistance on practical ways to reduce fire hazards around homes. We are currently collaborating with many different agencies and groups to help communities become more resilient and prepared for wildfires,” stated Kristina Trahern, Natural Resource Planner for SCCD.
