The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a Natural Resource Specialist to report on the Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP), coordinate research efforts in the Olympic Experimental State Forest (OESF), and assist with forest certification on DNR State Trust Lands statewide.
As the HCP Section’s Reporting and Research Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating projects, contracts, budgets, stakeholder learning groups, and volunteer activities in support of the OESF Research and Monitoring Program. Additionally, as the Reporting and Research Coordinator, you will coordinate HCP annual reporting including updating internal and external websites, and working with the Forest Certification Program Lead to maintain forest certification across DNR-managed State Trust Lands. During legislative session, this position also plays a critical role in the DNR bill analysis process.
To be successful in this position you will need a strong understanding of ecologically-based natural resource management as well as the regulatory environment in which we operate. This position requires excellent understanding of project budgets and ongoing frequent cooperative communication to ensure deadlines are met. Critical and creative thinking is welcome!
Duties
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the implementation of agreements and contracts with research partners, including developing budgets, sustaining partnerships, and supporting volunteer involvement.
- Coordinates and edits the HCP Annual Report.
- Researches and analyzes how State Lands programs link to and are affected by forest certification standards, and provides training and tools for region and program staff.
- Coordinate with division staff to provide accurate and useful content for internal and external websites.
- Participate in legislative bill coordination for the Forest Resources Division.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of ecologically-based natural resource management, and the natural resources regulatory environment, such as:
- DNR Habitat Conservation Plan, Policy for Sustainable Forests, various DNR land plans
- Forest Certification Standards
- State Environmental Policy Act process and public communications
- Experience with website administration, including:
- SharePoint
- Drupal and HTML
- Proactive collaboration and effective communication.
- Timeliness and Responsiveness.
- Organizational and Political Awareness.
- This position periodically requires travel for meetings, field visits, and other business needs related to forest certification auditing.
- A valid driver’s license and have two years of driving experience. This position requires driving as an essential function. Finalists and/or interview candidates will be asked to provide a driving record from all states in which they have held a license during the past three years.
