SUMMARY:Building Better: Be a Bridge\, not a Barrier: Managing the partnership with your board and staff
DESCRIPTION:The District Manager is the central pillar balancing two sides of a bridge with the Board and staff at opposite ends. When one side is stronger or pulls harder\, the central pillar has to figure out how to create balance so the entire bridge doesn’t collapse. Join us for a discussion with your peers on how to build a stronger sense of partnership with your Board and staff and learn ways to effectively manage your Board for success. Why? Because when the entire organization is pulling in the same direction\, your District becomes even more effective\, success is more satisfying\, and conditions are more pleasant for all! \nWe will also be joined by special guest (and almost retired) Dr. Carol Smith\, Executive Director of the Washington State Conservation Commission. Carol will share her leadership and management journey and share words of wisdom on how to develop your skills to build stronger teams. This is one you won’t want to miss! \nTo join\, visit the CTD website at https://www.wactd.org/training/building-better and click the big blue JOIN button\, or hit this link directly: https://zoom.us/j/93481472422?pwd=S1BTUVlkUDBGc0tCY3g3Q21EUGpaQT09 \nMeeting ID: 934 8147 2422 \nPasscode: 894758

SUMMARY:Building Better: Navigating the Parallel Roads of Management and Leadership
DESCRIPTION:Building Better: Navigating the Parallel Roads of Management and Leadership\nPresenters: Leadership Panel (CTD\, WADE\, WSCC\, WACD) and Jeremy Peters\, NACD Chief Executive Officer \nWhat is the difference between management and leadership? How do you know what hat to wear and when? Join the Building Better Leadership and Management Learning Community as we set the tone for this on-going meeting series with a panel discussion of the many facets of management and leadership\, get inspired by NACD Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Peters on what this looks like when it is working\, and learn from each other through open discussion and sharing. Whether you are an experienced or new District manager\, team coordinator\, or budding leader\, this series is for you! \n\nAbout Building Better\nLeadership and management are two parallel roads that lead to team success. Depending on your role at your District\, you might find yourself constantly on one of those roads\, or swerving between them as the situation warrants. The road can be smooth\, rocky\, under construction\, or turn suddenly in an unknown direction. Occasionally there may be a roadblock you need to navigate around or a side road you need to be brave enough to take. You might even be a passenger or backseat driver on this wild ride and looking to take over the wheel. Whatever your road or position\, the goal is to keep moving forward and driving your team in the right direction\, no matter the obstacles. But\, sometimes that is easier than it sounds. \nThe Center for Technical Development (CTD)\, Washington State Conservation Commission (WSCC)\, Washington Association of District Employees (WADE)\, and Washington Association of Conservation Districts (WACD) have teamed together to bring you the Building Better: Leadership and Management Learning Community. The goal of this monthly series is to introduce different management/leadership related topics and provide information\, insight\, strategies and discussion amongst peers. Together we can build a better community of Washington Conservation District leaders now and into the future! \nPlease mark your calendar and join the Building Better community on the second Wednesday of each month from 1:00-2:30 starting August 11th.\nTopics will span from successful leadership/management techniques\, strategies for Board and staff interface\, key elements of managing a District\, creating useful annual and long-range plans\, building partnerships\, conducting a productive performance evaluation\, and more! This series is for all levels of management and leadership staff within Washington Conservation Districts.

SUMMARY:NACD summer meeting in Chicago
DESCRIPTION:On July 25\, 1946\, at the Morrison Hotel in Chicago\, Illinois\, 18 representatives from 17 states created the National Association of Soil Conservation District Governing Officials. In 1970\, during the annual convention in San Francisco\, the association’s name was shortened to the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD). \nAs part of NACD’s 75th Anniversary celebration\, the 2021 NACD Summer Conservation Forum and Tour is returning to where the association was born in Chicago! \nAs the second-largest NACD event of the year\, the gathering brings together hundreds of conservation district leaders from across the nation\, including tribal representatives and representatives from the U.S. territories. \nThe agenda includes a full NACD board meeting\, a conservation forum plenary session\, and a set of conservation-minded tours. This is a national meeting with a regional flair that offers a first-hand look at how conservation is delivered while also providing direct access to top leaders. \nMore information about the meeting will be posted at https://www.nacdnet.org/news-and-events/summer-meeting/ when available.

This high-resolution dataset can produce maps\, statistics and models at multiple scales. The Agland Database is a comprehensive platform for understanding how agricultural ownership and land use is changing\, thereby enabling new science and research to inform public policy analysis\, debate and action. \nLearn more about the Agland Database here \nWebinar Details\nHear directly from Luke Rogers and Jeff Comnick\, the researchers who developed this powerful tool\, on a webinar hosted by the SCC. \nJune 21\, 2021\, 2:00-3:30 p.m. \nRegister for the Webinar here \nQuestions? \nPlease email Jean Fike
